The Academy for Academic Excellence at the Lewis Center for Educational Research is a Public Charter School supported by a high level of parent engagement. Teachers are offered a full range of benefits that include medical, dental, vision, life/AD&D, STRS, and professional growth is Center for Educational Research Drama Teacher Certificated Teaching Position Part Time Drama Teacher MISSION STATEMENT: The Lewis Center will administer the research, development and delivery of educational programs based on student success through partnerships. DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the Drama teacher will be responsible for directing middle school and high school drama courses. Dramatic performances both on and off campus will also be expected. Course content will follow the California State Standards for theater arts. The drama teacher will offer input regarding curricular decisions, attend department meetings, communicate regularly with parents regarding students progress, and work with parents to offer advice and support. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Current California Teaching Credential - Single Subject English 2. Three years experience teaching middle school and/or high school drama preferred 3. Ability to teach students of grades 7-12 4. Must meet NCLB requirements REQUIRED ABILITIES: - High academic standards - Ability to be flexible and adjust easily to change - Ability to recognize and support the parent as an integral partner in the students total educational experience - A desire to continue growth as an educator within a standards-based education reform model using a variety of creative teaching strategies - Ability to adapt to the collegial model, in which the AAE, teachers, parents, and students are partners and accountable to the academic success of each student - Ability to write lessons and curriculum using AAE, State and National Spanish language standards - Ability to integrate technology into the course of study - Ability to organize and present ideas effectively in oral and written form - Ability to make skillful decisions - Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines - Ability to operate a computer, word processor, copier, FAX, and other office machines EDUCATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: - Teach both middle school and high school drama courses as needed, concentrating on both performance theory and history - Produce at least one production each semester (one musical) - Follow performance guidelines as set forth by the VPA staff and administration - Supervise all set construction and costuming - Select and maintenance of uniforms - Develop and work with parent volunteers - Act as a liaison among instructors, parents and support staff - Participate in research projects as needed - Other related duties as assigned WORKING CONDITIONS Environment: - Subject to interruptions, public contact and multiple tasks Physical Abilities: - Hearing and speaking to exchange information - Walking and standing for extended periods of time - Ability to hear and speak clearly to exchange information in person and/or on the telephone - Seeing to read and compose written materials - Operating a computer keyboard and other office equipment for extended periods of time - Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment - Lift or move up to 35 pounds PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: - A certificate stating freedom from tuberculosis - Candidates selected for employment are required to be fingerprinted and cleared by the CA Department of Justice through the Lewis Center (LCER) and must provide the LCER with a certificate stating freedom from tuberculosis before beginning work APPLICATION PROCESS: - Complete an application and all other documents online at - All items must be submitted via EDJOIN to include application, resume, two reference letters and all other supporting documents.
