DIVISION DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL PHARMACY SERVICES

SUMMARY:

The Division Director of Clinical Pharmacy is responsible for clinical pharmacy activities at all of the facilities within the division (8) to include but not limited to: Clinical initiatives that impact drug utilization, clinical education and staff development, management of appropriate drug utilization, drug spend analysis, and quality improvement activities. Provides support for all clinical activities at division facilities, centralized order entry center and consolidated pharmacy Develop and oversee standardized clinical pharmacy program for division/facilities

Provides guidance to facilities regarding JCAHO, CMS, NQSF and FDA standards

Assists in preparation of annual facility clinical intervention savings budgets

Develops annual clinical pharmacy business plan in conjunction with clinical pharmacy group that ensures positive patient outcomes and appropriate drug utilization

Oversee Clinical Pharmacy Subcommittees

Assist in division formulary development through review of primary literature

Analyze drug spend trends to identify areas of opportunity and implement appropriate use/development of protocols and guidelines

Provides supporting documentation, "white papers" or other information needed to facilitate P&T Committee preparation as needed

Ensures provision of education and support at HCA facilities with regard to clinical pharmacy responsibilities, clinical protocol justification, execution and implementation. Provides education through HPG and HCA support via webinar, tele-conference, live or other communication

Prepare clinical portion of monthly Pharmacy Key Performance Indicator report

Ensures appropriate and effective use of clinical intervention template

Provides periodic review of documented clinical interventions and provides summary reports and recommendations to facilities on quality/content of documentation

Maintain effective communication with facility directors and leadership teams on clinical initiatives and facility and division results

Assists in development of "best practice" recommendations for clinical procedures to minimize adverse events and ensure compliance with regulatory standards

Participate in quality improvement, fiscal and productivity goals and objectives with upper management

Assist in preparation and implementation of facility policy and procedures as needed

Ensure pharmacy departments are meeting market share goals

Facilitates review of division ADE/ADR reports to work on identifying trends and process improvement initiatives

Serve as liaison with local pharmacy schools to develop relationship, manage division agreement, and coordinate rotation sites

Develop and maintain clinical portion of division website

Assist in preparation and implementation of pharmacy staff competencies related to clinical activities

Facilitates creation of a Division education program for pharmacy and CSC staff to promote improved patient care. Creates annual CE schedule

Completes Quarterly clinical pharmacy newsletter for facility pharmacy departments

Perform other duties as assigned by DDOP

Practice and adhere to the "Code of Conduct" philosophy and "Mission and Value Statement"

Participate in HCA Corporate Quality Clinical Advisory and other committees as needed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES- A MUST

Knowledge - Has thorough knowledge of medications and clinical pharmacy activities. Able to interpret literature to provide formulary guidance and pharmacoeconomic data

Organization - proactively prioritized needs and effectively manages resources

Communication - Able to communicate (verbal and written) clearly and effectively to other health care providers including pharmacists, physicians and nurses. Fosters team environment by providing clinical education, support, training to staff members

Leadership - guides individuals and groups toward desired outcomes, setting high performance standards and delivering quality services

Customer orientation - establishes and maintains long-term customer relationships, building trust and respect by consistently meeting and exceeding expectations. Able to work with diverse work force

Policies and Procedures - articulates knowledge and understanding of organizational policies, procedures and systems

PC Skills - proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications and other required operating systems such as CPCS, Order Scanning Systems, Automated Dispensing Units, Packaging Equipment, Physician Order Entry, and Clinical Integration to systems

Financial management - applies tools and processes to successfully manage drug cost budget. Able to direct cost-effective drug therapy via clinical protocols

Project management - Able to assess work activities and allocate resources appropriately. Able to work independently and handle stress appropriately

Will work with Directors of Pharmacy, Corporate Quality Department, Facility Clinical Coordinators/Pharmacists, COE Supervisor.

CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

TX LICENSE Mandated at application

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Pharm.D. required. Residency Training or BCPS certification preferred

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum 5 years experience as a pharmacy Director in a HOSPITAL setting REQUIRED.
