Title: Director of Development (1AP) Location: St. George (downtown Toronto) Other Locations: Reporting to the Executive Director of Advancement, the Director of Development is part of the senior management team and provides leadership, strategy and management for the Faculty's fundraising and donor stewardship staff. In collaboration with the Executive Director of Advancement, the incumbent provides leadership in the preparation, implementation and management of a faculty-wide development strategy and plan; trains, coaches and develops the call officer team; provides leadership, guidance and advice to departmental chairs and centre directors with respect to specific fundraising projects; ensures necessary operational procedures and systems are in place to support development activities; oversees a comprehensive stewardship program. The Director also collaborates with the Executive Director of Advancement in the training of volunteers. The Director will hire, train, develop and manage a dynamic team of development professionals and will liaise closely with departmental staff involved in advancement activities. The incumbent works closely with others as a member of the Advancement team at the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering and the Division of University Advancement.

Education: University degree with an exceptional combination of education and experience.
Experience: Minimum of eight years related experience in progressively more responsible roles, preferably in the post-secondary education system. Significant proven managerial and supervisory experience. Knowledge and experience interacting with major gift donors, volunteers, alumni and industry representatives a strong asset.
Skills: Strong computer skills, including word processing, database software and spreadsheet programs. Knowledge of DIS and FIS an asset.
Other: Exceptional oral and written communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Ability to work well in a team environment. Detail oriented; strong organizational, research, and analytical skills. Initiative, tact, diplomacy, and creativity required. Ability to multi-task successfully in a hectic and results oriented environment. Proven ability to motivate and manage staff and volunteers; leadership skills are essential. A comprehensive and global understanding of the Faculty and University of Toronto, as well as general knowledge of the post-secondary education system and the fundraising sector a strong asset. Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
