The Scientific Computing Unit provides a variety of information technology services that include network connectivity, web, file sharing, network and data security, database support, laboratory information system support, and desktop support for Windows and Macintosh clients. Desktop computers are fully networked for Intra/Internet access and licensed for office productivity/presentation software and data management and analysis packages. Technical staff are comitted to providing a high level of customer service in areas such as desktop and network support, consulting, systems analysis and database programming services. The Desktop Support Specialist is responsible for: * Providing the HNRCA user community with support for the security of data files within applicable Massachusetts, federal and industry security regulations; * Providing direct user support of desktop application software, hardware, network services and connectivity; * Utilizing Ghost to install system images on new PCs, install endpoint security software as needed, and rebuild infected/compromised systems as necessary; * Providing assistance to Systems/Network Administrator and Info Tech Manager as needed. Basic Requirements:An Associates Degree with 3 plus years of experience. Ability to lift 30 lbs. Experience in supporting PC/Mac desktops, peripherals, and software, especially Information Security tools, standard office applications, and utilities. Experience with installing system and application software, including OS components, patches, A/V software, BitLocker, MacAfee Endpoint Security. Documented security training towards or achievement of at least 1 IT security certification. Experience using imaging technology for system setup/reconstruction. Experience in user education in security best practices a plus. Excellent skills in customer service and communications a necessity, as well as problem resolution skills including thoroughness, attention to detail and resourcefulness. Ability to learn new skills quickly, incorporate changing technology, and be self-directed in researching problems. Ability to work independently, under supervision, and as part of a team. Preferred Qualifications:Bachelors Degree Preferred. Desirable Certifications: A+ or equivalent for desktops, Security+ or equivalent security certifications.
