Dance Teacher
Living Classrooms of the National Capital Region, is hiring a Dance Youth Educator for our afterschool program. Applicants must be able to teach both the dance class and help with academic components (literacy and science), and homework. The afterschool program is held at a Catholic School in Southeast DC, serving grades 6-8. The position is 20 hours a week, $13/hr. The position starts immediately, and ends June 2010. A reliable car is required for this posiiton. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: -Working at least 4 hours, 5 days a week, 2:30-6:30 PM - Teaching and creating lessons for the dance class. Each quarter the afterschool program studies a different country and world culture. The culture of this country is incorporated into the dance class and the ACE program component. -Facilitating Academic Enrichment Activities. Such as: teaching lesson plans from STEM science curriculum, the literacy curriculum, the ACE component, and helping with homework. -As needed, picking up/dropping off DCPS students from school, by van (unless within walking distance) -Supervising recreation time -Chaperoning fieldtrips and camping trip -Distribute healthy snacks and supervise snack time -Work with all educational staff to complete a Community Event (group performances) quarterly -Work with Site Coordinators to track and collect student attendance and data - Oversee and manage the day-to-day behavior of the children and address behavioral issues (with support from the Site Coordinator as needed) -Clean and organize educational space at the end of each day -And additional duties as assigned by the Director of Afterschool Programs or the Managing Director of Living Classrooms of the National Capital Region The Afterschool Educator works under the direction of the Afterschool Site Coordinator and the Director of Afterschool Programs. High energy, dedication, enthusiasm, flexibility, organization, and an ability to create a vision for the future are required to develop and implement these programs. The primary responsibility for the Afterschool Educator is to develop and implement educational programs. EXPERIENCE: Prior experience working with children, youth programs, summer camps, or afterschool programs is required.
