Responsibilities:

Inver Hills Community College seeks a Criminal Justice instructor dedicated to excellence in teaching who desires to become part of a creative, vibrant, student-centered learning community. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to interdisciplinary and cross-cultural perspectives.

Faculty members at Inver Hills are professionally active scholars who participate in departmental, campus-wide, and external activities to enhance their disciplines, promote interdisciplinary discourse and collaboration, and advance the college mission. The college is committed to a collegial environment reflecting a diversity of perspectives and backgrounds among its administrators, faculty and staff. Responsibilities include:
* Participate in department and college curriculum development
* Deliver instruction using a variety of methods of course instruction, including on-ground, online and/or hybrid-blended, and accelerated for a wide range of students, including traditional, developmental, adult, concurrent enrollment, and English-language learners
* Conduct classroom research and other assessment/evaluation activities
* Mentor and advise students
* Contribute in committee assignments and college-wide retention and quality initiatives, such as peer review of courses and an early alert system for students struggling academically
* Engage in department accreditation and review
* Engage in scholarly and other professional development activities
Course assignments include day, evening, and weekend hours at campus and off-site locations; delivery of course may be in traditional, accelerated, online or blended/hybrid, and concurrent enrollment modes.


Minimum Qualifications:

* Master’s degree with a major in criminal justice or sociology with a concentration in corrections, criminal justice, criminology or criminal studies; or
* Master’s degree with a minimum of 16 graduate semester credits (24 graduate quarter credits) in criminal justice, corrections, criminology or criminal studies or
* Master’s degree with a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, criminal studies, criminology, sociology with a concentration in corrections or a concentration in criminal justice.
Preferred Qualifications:

* Higher education teaching experience with diverse student populations
* Professional (non-teaching) experience in the criminal justice field, for example as a Correctional Officer, Probation Officer or licensed Peace Officer
* Experience incorporating technology into curriculum delivery, including online and hybrid instruction
* Experience developing and using student-centered, active and experiential learning strategies
* Experience with interdisciplinary teaching and/or learning communities and an understanding of creating integrative learning opportunities
* Experience assessing student academic achievement of campus-wide and classroom learning outcomes

Founded in 1970, Inver Hills is a comprehensive community college offering 26 degree options including the Associate in Arts (A.A.), a liberal education degree that leads to transfer to four-year colleges; the Associate in Fine Art (A.F.A.) degrees in studio arts and music; and the career-related Associate in Science (A.S.) and Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degrees in leading occupational areas such as nursing, paralegal, computer networking, law enforcement, human services, business, emergency medical services, teacher education, and more.

Located 10 minutes from downtown St. Paul, Inver Hills is an open door community college which serves over 7000 credit students each semester. Approximately 25% of course sections are offered online and online instructors participate in Quality Matters. Nationally recognized in adult experiential learning, Inver Hills is an Academic Quality Improvement (AQIP) institution accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of North Central. The college has a number of nationally accredited programs, including Business and Accounting, Nursing, and Emergency Medical Services, and an American Bar Association Paralegal program. The college encourages students to "Finish What You Start" and provides students with support through Learning Communities, a College Success course, service learning, and tutoring/structured learning assistance.  Over 90 percent of Inver Hills classrooms are high-tech.

Instructors work 171 days during a nine-month academic year and receive excellent benefits including health insurance (100% employer paid single premium or 90% employer paid family premium); life insurance; optional dental, short- and long-term disability and long-term care insurance; paid personal and sick leave; defined benefits and defined contribution (401(a) retirement plans); tuition waiver for employees and dependents; and optional 457 and 403(b) retirement savings plans.

Under the collective bargaining agreement with the Minnesota State College Faculty (MSCF), new instructors to the Minnesota State College Faculty system receive a salary placement based on education and related experience after a job offer is accepted. The maximum salary at hire is $54,500 per academic year, depending on education and experience.
