The Faculty of Medicine is seeking an experienced research administrator to manage and coordinate the operations and staff of the Research Office. Responsibilities include: establishing and maintaining close working relationships with researchers, academic and administrative leaders at the University, hospitals, government departments, foundations and granting agencies; providing investigative, analytical and planning support; monitoring administrative research projects from start to completion; fostering and facilitating research programs; monitoring budgets, expenditure statements (operating and trust funds); reviewing and overseeing internal processes, including developing and implementing effective processes, policies and/or procedures; communicating new funding opportunities and/or changes to the research community; responding to inquiries regarding funding, guidelines and/or applications; promoting public awareness of research endeavours, including responding to requests from the media and the public; assisting with conducting investigations into alleged improper research conduct; overseeing and participating in creating, maintaining, and updating the research website; coordinating research workshops; overseeing and managing service units, including arranging user meetings, reviewing financial status, dealing with staffing issues and other complications and/or emergencies; monitoring research database and reviewing reports; providing input into developing and implementing information systems; drafting lobbying letters and overseeing the production of lobbying postcards; assisting in recruiting members of the research community; and analyzing trends and providing information on research funding.


(MINIMUM)

Education:
A university degree, preferably in a biomedically related discipline with research administration experience or combination of education and experience.

Experience:
Minimum five (5) years of related experience, preferably in a health-related, research or education environment; demonstrated effective management experience; experience in research administration; experience in financial management, including preparing budgets and forecasting. Knowledge of the University's Administrative Management Systems (AMS), including Financial Information System (FIS), Human Resources Information System (HRIS), and Research Information System (RIS) is a strong asset.

Skills:
Strong computer skills and knowledge of Word, Access, Excel, Dreamweaver, Power Point, Adobe Acrobat with the ability to understand HTML markup language; ability to understand complex relational databases on research funding; strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills; good keyboarding skills.

Other:
Excellent human relations skills, both interpersonal and interorganizational; effective communication (verbal and written) skills; presence and manner required to command confidence and respect among members of the internal and external research community; supervisory experience; excellent organizational and time-management skills; ability to prioritize and meet deadlines; tact, discretion, flexibility and sound judgment; and high degree of initiative and creativity.
