The Office of Family and Public Engagement is responsible for DCPS' work to engage parents, families, and the community in our students' learning, the improvement of our schools and DCPS' planning and decision making. Our three areas of work are family and community engagement, community and business partnerships, and communications. All of our work is designed to impact and improve student achievement at the individual student, school or district level. Our family and community engagement projects specifically are designed to engage parents in their child's learning, invest parents in the success of their child's school, and educate and include parent voices in ward and district level planning and decisions. The Family Engagement School Support Coordinators are responsible for providing support to principals, teachers and parents in drafting and implementing their family engagement plans. The family engagement plans focus on three areas: 1) creating a welcoming and inviting school 2) teachers engaging parents as partners in their child's learning and 3) principals investing parents in school success. Support and technical assistance will be aimed at having schools be successful in achieving those goals. Coordinators will help principals, teachers, and parents think and act strategically about engaging parents in ways that drive student achievement. Bachelor's degreeQualifications
. Bachelor's degree and 1-3 years work experience required. . Master's degree and specific experience in project management strongly preferred. . . Provides support and technical assistance to principals and parents to create, implement, and get buy-in to their family engagement plans . Provides school staff with information on best practices for effectively engaging parents in their child's learning . Links school staff to appropriate professional development opportunities . Facilitates parents and school staff meetings if requested . Models what great customer service looks like by serving our school staff and parents with timely, relevant and research-based information and solutions . Determines barriers to principal or parent success and identifies the best DCPS staff to resolve the issue and tracks and follows up until issue is resolved . Supports the delivery of school staff professional development . Plans and coordinates parent leader meetings and trainings for LSAT and parent-based organizations (e.g. PTAs) . Collects data from schools required by Title 1 and the family engagement plans . Schedules and coordinates program-related meetings, conferences, appointments and logistics . Builds relationships and liaises with various internal departments to drive collaboration on family engagement strategies . Tracks and reports progress of projects in consistent and timely manner . Interacts with and responds effectively to urgent requests from multiple internal and external DCPS stakeholders . Supports and carries out the Chancellor's mission to transform DC Public Schools and close the achievement gap .
