Purpose This position is primarily responsible for the design, development and delivery of training to support hoisting and rigging activities as well as mobile equipment operations at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. This position includes but is not limited to training for operators of forklifts, overhead cranes, and mobile cranes (with lifting capacity of 2 tons and under) as well as training for riggers and those involved in lift plan preparation. This position also will be assigned the responsibility for the development and delivery of ancillary safety and health training courses.
Major Duties/Responsibilities - Responding to and clarifying training requests/requirements and determining the most effective training or solution(s). - Analyzing jobs tasks or job functions, determining the competencies, knowledge and skills necessary to perform the job, and selecting the tasks or functions that require training. - Designing and selecting the content of training programs, writing learning objectives, determining the appropriate learning strategy (instructional method and setting), and determining testing requirements. - Developing, revising or modifying lesson plans, support materials, and evaluation materials. - Implementing or delivering training programs and assessing trainee performance/completion of the programs. - Evaluating effectiveness of training programs in meeting trainee and management needs and identifying opportunities for improvement - Independently maintaining an aggressive schedule of weekly classroom training events followed by one-on-one practical skills evaluations to accommodate line organization initial and retraining needs.
Qualifications Required B.S. degree in a technical field (engineering or science), or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience. Candidates must be technically competent in the area of hoisting and rigging operations, having both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Three to five years of experience in design/delivery of hoisting and rigging training are required. Candidates with 5 to 10 years experience in hoisting and rigging operations with demonstrated ability to perform instructional tasks may also be considered. Effective oral communication and presentation skills in group situations and ability to clearly convey information and concepts in writing with good grammatical form are required.
Desired Skills- A working knowledge of the Department of Energy Hoisting and Rigging Standard and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office are desirable. Completion of an academic program of study or a training program related to instruction design processes and methods is strongly desired. Although knowledge and skill to support hoisting and rigging training is the primary consideration, candidates' education and experience will also be assessed for ability to support development and delivery of other safety and health training programs provided by the hiring organization.
