Chemical Formulation MP&P Engineer\Scientist 4\5
We are seeking an experienced Chemical Formulation Scientist or Engineer. The successful candidate will have the responsibility for formulating and developing advanced coating, sealing, and resin technologies required for existing and new aerospace systems. This will entail working on a variety of technologies from concept through completion, including coating and sealant formulations as well as raw material synthesis. The successful candidate will be required to work with other scientists and engineers to develop new materials, application methods, and curing protocols directed toward various end uses, including anti-corrosion coatings, electrically conductive coatings and other functional coating systems. The candidate will guide further product and technology developments and identify and promote new or improved applications for existing products.
Required qualifications, duties, or responsibilities:
-MS, Ph.D., or equivalent experience in chemistry and a good understanding of additive chemistries for paints and coatings as well as associated interactions at the molecular level;
-understanding of UV, IR, and thermal curing mechanisms and processes;
-physical chemist who can do applications research based on a molecular level understanding of the chemistries;
-product development of specialty chemicals, pigments, and polymers for use in coatings and resins applications;
-support R&D efforts for coatings programs;
-develop, implement, and teach Competencies in coatings formulation, testing, and quantitative analysis of performance;
-develop technical presentations for internal use, customers, and industry symposia;
-design and execute technical projects to understand the impact of formulary considerations on the performance of coatings, including adhesion, physical properties, environmental resistances.
-provide consultation on the formulation, application, and performance testing of coatings to other technical teams;
-document technical results in technical and invention reports, trade articles and presentations, and internal status summaries,
-develop strong connections to and working relationships with other company researchers in various locations to access their working knowledge of products and technologies;
-good communication skills (oral and written) - this position will involve communication of the benefits and value of products for coating formulations via technical presentations internally, to customers and industry symposia, development of literature and technical articles, and visits to customer locations;
-use sound data-based decision processes to draw conclusions from test results and provide input to the rest of the project team, on appropriate next steps on projects;
-work seamlessly as a member of cross-functional project teams;
-extensive experience and proven competence in areas of technical leadership within a research and development organization;
-demonstrated technical direction/goal setting, program development effectiveness, and good scientific judgment;
-demonstrated technical writing background including technical reports, proposals, and presentations. Compiles monthly and quarterly team internal reports as well as external reports to customers and government agencies;
-maintains project timelines for the team and interacts with team members on a daily basis;
-working knowledge of the operational rigor needed to maintain safe, secure, and regulatory compliant laboratories;
-demonstrated development and proper analysis of Designed Experiments;
-proven ability to work effectively on cross-functional project teams; and
-ability to travel approximately 10% of time, domestically and internationally, to fulfill responsibilities of the position.

Extensive knowledge of general chemistry principles and the ability to utilize and train others to ensure good laboratory practices.
Preferred - Expert knowledge of attributes and performance capabilities of various analytical laboratory instruments and the ability to use, maintain, troubleshoot and train others in the proper use and maintenance of instruments (e.g. pH meter, turbidimeter, balances, ICP, GC, GC/MS, FTIR, GFAA, Auto Analyzer). Demonstrates knowledge of cutting edge instrumentation and is capable of making cost effective instrument purchase recommendations to improve service to customers. Expert knowledge of general chemistry principles and the ability to utilize and train others to ensure good laboratory practices.

• Organic Chemical Processing
Basic - Extensive, specialized knowledge of organic chemical processes (such as top-coating, priming, surface cleaning).

ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Level 5 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's 14 or more years' experience, Master's with 12 or more years' experience or PhD with 9 or more years' experience.
