JOB DESCRIPTION: IPO requires a Disaster Recovery specialist to work within IT to create and update Technical Disaster Recovery Plans (TDRP's) and Business Continuity Plans (BCP's). By interviewing the application owners and Business Process Owners, the BC/DR Specialist will use their industry training and expertise to identify and define interdependencies, Recovery Time Objectives (RTO's), Recovery Point Objectives (RPO's), and resource requirements needed in the event of a technical or business outage. Specialists will create TDRP's and BCP's within Living Disaster Recovery Planning System (LDRPS) and present to the Application Owners and Business Process Owners for their approval. The BC/DR Specialist may also participate in annual Plan Walkthroughs and Tests. The Specialist will also be assisting with other IPO activities including compliance efforts, risk mitigation and remediation projects, and security assessments. RESPONSIBILITIES: . Acts as lead in the creation and updating of BCP's and TDRP's for the client's IT Division
. Provides strategic and tactical direction for Disaster Recovery Efforts
. Works closely with the Business, Application and Technology teams to understand goals and objectives, clarify requests and requirements.
. Defines, identifies and documents Recovery Time Objectives (RTO's), Recovery Point Objectives (RPO's), and resource requirements needed in the event of a technical or business outage
. Defines, identifies and classifies information assets, assesses threats and vulnerabilities regarding those assets, as well as recommends appropriate information security controls and measures
. Identifies criticality and tier level for applications.
. Participates in TDRP and BCP walkthroughs and tests
. Acts as the liaison between IT and the Enterprise Resiliency group ensuring plans are created accurately and within defined schedule
. Evaluates security risks and compliance strategies with policies and standards
. Develops and implements security measures for information systems to prevent security breaches
. Investigates and analyzes causes, patterns and trends that can pose a risk to data integrity and information systems
. Manages project documentation (BIA's, BCP's, TDRP's, compliance documentation, security plans, risk assessment, corrective action plans, etc.)
. Keeps stakeholders informed about compliance and security-related issues and activities affecting the assigned area or project
. Evaluates risk-related data and identify solutions to increase data protection mechanisms and controls throughout the enterprise
. Identifies, develops and implements control processes
. Assists with the training and awareness of Business Continuity Planning, Disaster Recovery Planning and overall security best practices
. Maintains current knowledge on a wide range of security and information system recovery related topics
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: The ideal candidate must have at least 5 years of Business
Continuity and Disaster Recovery experience with hands-on experience creating and updating plans within LDRPS.
Candidate must be a self-starter with initiative, and able to work independently without daily oversight. Experience within other Information Security related domains is preferred.
CISSP certification preferred but not required. Preferred certification in DRII (Disaster Recovery Institute International) or BCI (Business Continuity Institute) as granted by DRI International and Business Continuity Institute.
5 years of experience creating Disaster Recovery Plans and Business Continuity Plans for midsized to large IT organizations
Ability to define application requirements, gather and create process flows and develop technical requirements and specifications for input into design.
Experience gathering business and technical requirements and communicating them to business and technology staff to provide executable recovery solutions to the business
Experience operating as a liaison between the business, technology groups and vendors
Skilled - LDRPS Skilled - DR for Data Center management/operations Skilled - DR for server & storage Skilled - DR for network and applications Skilled - Operational recovery/high availability Skilled - Communications and Negotiation Skills
PREFERRED SKILLS: Experience with security technologies including firewalls, IDS, logging and monitoring tools, antivirus, desktop encryption, data loss prevention, anti-virus Understanding of security vulnerabilities in common operating systems, web and application servers, including knowledge of remediation procedures Experience analyzing new technologies and making security recommendations based on business objectives Implementation of security controls and best practices EDUCATION: A Bachelor's degree with extensive coursework in Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
