Auto req ID 25622BR Business Title Bioinformatics Specialist School/Unit Financial Administration Sub-Unit ------------ Location USA - MA - Cambridge Job Function Research Time Status Full-time Schedule Department Research Computing / Division of Science Salary Grade 058 Union 00 - Non Union, Exempt or Temporary Duties & Responsibilities This position will work closely with our scientists and investigators to pipeline genomic data from next generation sequencing and customized electron microscopes to a centralized high performance, multi petabyte computing systems. The position reports to the Director of Research Computing & Chief Technology Architect.
The Research Computing Core plans initially to develop innovative algorithms and analysis pipelines, to support genomic and connectomic studies of imprinting within parvalbumin (PV)-positive GABAergic interneurons. We aim to construct advanced tools for automated image segmentation of neurons, synapses, coupled with underlying genomic wide in-silico informatics analyses.
Our research lies at the very intersection of modern genomic analysis and neural imaging. Accordingly, we are looking for a talented individual to help both develop our algorithms and support the academic mission of the Conte Center.
Basic Qualifications Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or a closely related field. Experience with C++ development experience. Experience with scientific computing algorithms and techniques. Additional Qualifications Experience with large, computationally intensive problems. Expertise with combining a number of life science algorithms in pipelines with requisite source control management, implementation, and bug fixing. Close attention to detail, good communication skills with initiative, self-guidance and the ability to perform in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with a lot of technical challenges.
Knowledge of next generation sequence technology and analysis, clustering with high level programming techniques (java/c/ruby/python). Experience using GPUs for scientific computing would be highly beneficial. Experience with Linux and in depth software development. Experience with VTK, ITK, OpenCV, OpenGL, and/or Direct3D development. Experience with hierarchical spatial data structures. Experience managing data at scale through relational database technologies.
Must have strong communication skills and the ability to interact well with others. Additional Information This position is grant funded for up to 5 years
