Westwood College in Upland, CA is looking for an Assistant Program Chair. The Assistant Program Chair assists the Program Chair (PC) in managing the department in its delivery of curriculum and instruction to Westwood students and to promote student success. He or she serves as the secondary contact for students, faculty, and employees by maintaining a high level of visibility and actively soliciting input to promote a positive learning environment and assumes all duties and responsibilities of the PC in his or her absence. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assumes all duties and responsibilities of the PC in his or her absence. Assists the PC in all other tasks required of the PC, including: Campus Level * Recruits and manages program faculty.
* Develops program master schedule:
* Creates program core offerings and determines instructor assignments each term.
* Determine individual student schedules.
* Manages all program related equipment:
* Ensures functional hardware, licensed software and other equipment are in place to deliver instruction according to Westwood defined standards.
* Participates in determining content of tool kits in collaboration with counterparts from other campuses and corporate purchasing department (for those programs that issue tool kits) and maintains tool kit inventory.
* Participates in curriculum developments:
* Recruit members for PAC committees, facilitate PAC committee discussions, and summarizes recommendations.
* Stays current in both the subject area and instructional methodology.
* Participates in regularly scheduled Program Chair conference calls and provides input on curriculum issues.
* Collaborates on curriculum review, evaluation and revision with other Program Chairs at annual Program Chairs’ Retreats.
* Develops, implements, and communicates changes in curriculum to faculty, administration, and students.
* Oversees delivery and assessment of instruction:
* Ensures that what is being taught conforms to the established Westwood syllabi.
* Administers and analyzes Faculty Course Evaluations.
* Observes classroom instruction.
* Manages all student issues:
* Resolves scheduling issues.
* Resolves student complaints.
* Contacts and implements problem solving solutions for all at risk students.
* Conducts academic advising as needed.
* Program budget management:
* Prepares program budget (payroll, expenses, and CapEx) and works with the DOE in the preparation of the total academic budget.
* Track monthly performance relative to program budget.
* Interface with other departments/individuals.
* Performing any other duties as assigned. Assists Program Chair in efforts: * Recruits, selects, and trains all new instructors.
* Collects all new hire paperwork for submission to the campus payroll coordinator.
* Confers with teachers following classroom observations.
* Confers with teachers regarding FCE results.
* Prepares and conducts annual faculty performance reviews in a timely manner with the Program Chair and determines annual increase recommendations.
* Resolves all student, faculty, and employee issues.
* Conducts and maintains minutes for regularly scheduled faculty meetings.
* Promotes subject area faculty development.
* Responsible for carefully monitoring progress of students and instructors and producing weekly reports on independent study courses.
* Responsible for monitoring faculty development and ensuring proper documentation is provided as evidence in all faculty files. JOB QUALIFICATIONS At the time of hiring Westwood College faculty and education department managers are required to hold a completed graduate degree from a U.S. regionally or nationally accredited university. In addition, state licensing and national accrediting criteria apply. Faculty with international credentials are required to present an official U.S. degree evaluation by AACRAO or NACES recognized evaluation agency. * Appropriate technical certification (if required)

* Teaching experience preferred
* Working knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software.
* Strong oral and written communication skills
