Assistant Professor of Special Education
About the Position:Woodring College of Education invites dynamic and innovative individuals with cross-cultural experience to apply for appointment as Assistant Professor in the Special Education Department. This is a nine-month tenure-track position, with opportunity for summer employment.
About the Department:Special Education Position Responsibilities: * Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Special Education * Work with department and college to align department curriculum with state and professional performance-based standards * Maintain an active and visible program of scholarship including presentations and publications * Participate in service within the department, college, university, community, and professional organizations * Advise undergraduate and graduate students * Supervise students in community-based or school practica settings Required Qualifications: * Earned doctorate or doctoral specialization in special education or school psychology by September 2012 * Evidence of commitment to continuing scholarly activity in special education * Experience working with children and youth with disabilities * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills * Experience working with and knowledge of diverse populations * Present or past credential for teaching special education or school psychology * Experience in schools (P-12) Preferred Qualifications: * Earned doctorate in Special Education or School Psychology * Evidence of active, applied, collaborative scholarship in special education * Scholarship in bilingual/multicultural special education, secondary special education, low incidence disabilities, remedial math or remedial language arts * Experience aligning university curriculum with state and national standards for special education * Experience in collaboration with general educators * Evidence of successful university teaching * Teaching experience with students with special needs (P-12) Academic Emphasis:Special Education Job Location:Western Washington University, Bellingham, WA
