Assistant Professor of Art History
About the Position:The Art Department at Western Washington University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor in Art History. Salary: commensurate with qualifications and experience. About the Department:The Art Department is part of the College of Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA), which is comprised of the departments of Theatre and Dance, Music and Art and is housed in six buildings with five performance spaces, including a Performing Arts Center overlooking Bellingham Bay. The College features the Western Gallery, two student operated galleries, and an internationally acclaimed outdoor sculpture collection including the works of Magdalena Abakanovicz, Alice Aycock, Anthony Caro, Isamu Noguchi, Beverly Pepper, Richard Serra, and Bruce Nauman. Western Washington enjoys a strong reputation as a quality, comprehensive institution and is located approximately 1.5 hours drive from both Seattle and Vancouver. Position Responsibilities: * Teach lower division Ancient Art and Medieval survey courses; upper division Architectural History, Critical Thinking, and Museum Studies courses; and advanced undergraduate seminars in specialty and secondary fields * Teach seminars in Art History methodologies and Critical Theory * Participate in student advisement * Participate in university, college, and departmental committee work and governance activities Required Qualifications: * Ph.D. in Art History with a specialty in History of Architecture (complete by August 2012) * A demonstrated record of university level teaching in lower and upper divisions * Evidence of scholarly research, presentations and publications * Evidence of experience with Critical Theory and Museum Studies Preferred Qualifications: * Secondary field: Nineteenth Century Academic Emphasis:Art History Job Location:Western Washington University, Bellingham, WA
