About the Position:The Department of Communication at Western Washington University (WWU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Media Studies. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The starting date for this position is September 16, 2012.
About the Department:The mission of the Communication Department at WWU is to teach communication that nurtures inclusive civil discourse and encourages cooperative solutions in a diverse world. The Department currently has 8 full-time and additional part-time faculty serving approximately 150 undergraduate majors. We seek a colleague who specializes in Media Studies and also possesses the qualifications to teach at least one of the following required classes: Communication Theory; Communication Research Methods; and/or Ethics in Communication. Position Responsibilities:The successful candidate will teach existing courses at the undergraduate level, including any combination of Advocacy through Media, Media Literacy, and either Research Methods in Communication, Communication Theory, or Communication Ethics, as well as other classes as needed. The teaching load is six courses per academic year. Members of the Communication Department actively engage in research that enhances effective instruction and expands the knowledge base and creative vitality of the discipline. In addition, active service to the department, the College, the University, the profession, and the community is an important component of a faculty member's role at WWU. Required Qualifications: * Evidence of successful undergraduate teaching * Demonstrated commitment to an active and successful program of scholarship * Ph.D. -- Applicants are expected to have completed a Communication Ph.D. no later than December 31, 2012 * Specialization in Media Studies * Qualified to teach at least one of the following classes: * Communication Theory, Communication Research Methods, or Ethics in Communication Preferred Qualifications: * Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of students and faculty * Evidence of commitment to university and community service Academic Emphasis:Media Studies Job Location:Western Washington University, Bellingham ,WA
