APPLICATION DEVELOPER III/ DATA ANALYST, Information Technology, GRADE 55 Tracking Code 5222* Job Description We're looking for highly motivated, experienced and team-oriented C# and/or programmers to contribute within our application services unit to meet the needs of research, instruction and administrative applications for faculty, students and staff. In addition to application development, this individual will spend roughly 20% of their time on data analyst functions, including importing, cleaning, transforming, validating or modeling data, with the purpose of understanding or making conclusions from the data for decision making purposes. This individual will contribute to the design, development, testing and deployment of applications, and will be a contributor at all levels of the development life cycle, including: project planning, technology & resource assessment, cost & design reviews, programming, testing/debugging, documentation, training, follow-up support and continual evaluation. The individual will be expected to learn new technologies, to contribute as part of a team and to take responsibility for assignments and deadlines. We're looking for well-rounded applicants who can program web-based applications, using C#, and have experience with ASP .NET 2.0 (3.5 is a definite plus). The incumbent should be well-versed in SQL Server 2005/2008 and should be proficient in all aspects of the SDLC. Other relevant experience includes: Visual Studio 2005/2008+, VB, .NET 3.0+, web services & JavaScript. Experience with Team Foundation Suite is a plus. Interest or experience with FileMaker Pro development and Oracle 9i+ database integration is a plus. Experience with data modeling and reporting/business intelligence solutions are strong benefits. They should possess strong communication and technical problem-solving skills, and be able to work well within a team. Candidates will be expected to program, contribute to the writing of specifications and prepare other documentation under collaborative guidance. Build, modify and maintain MS SQL Server 2005/2008 databases including creating tables/views, stored procedures, queries, triggers, DTS/SSIS, etc. . Identify and define functional and technical specifications to meet explicit business requirements. . Program, integrate, and/or construct data repositories as needed. . Debug and test functionality as it compares to specifications, including quality assurance testing before conducting user verification and acceptance testing. . Liaison with our Systems group and other developers on central data modeling, designing, implementing and evolving database architecture & security to support business needs. . Assist our Report Analyst with report creation, including exporting, cleaning, transforming validating and modeling data with the purpose of understanding or making conclusions from the data for decision making purposes. . Conduct training and generate technical documentation as required. . Collaborate on application blueprinting, resource requirement assessment and meet periodically with end-users. . Work with other members of the team to improve processes, effectiveness and efficiency. . Learn new programming tools, including those of the University-community, to further development skills. Required Skills . We have application developer openings at varying levels, commensurate with education and experience. . Our positions require a BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent technical training and professional experience. . We require from 7-10 years of experience developing web-based applications on the .NET platform, ideally using MS SQL 2000/2005 as the backend database. . A solid background in enterprise-class, web-based application development and client-server technology is required. . Certification in Application Development and relevant technology is a plus. ITIL knowledge or certification is also a plus. . Experience with FileMaker Pro 7+ and Oracle 9i+ is advantageous. . The individual should have experience with web services and web-based security models and understand client-side technologies such as JavaScript, XML, and AJAX. . Experience with MS Office application development or SharePoint technologies is a plus. . Must be a team player dedicated to customer service, and have excellent interpersonal skills.
