POSITION TITLE: AMERICAN HISTORY PROJECT COORDINATOR
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Work closely with administration, teacher cohorts, project historians, principals, and advisory board to run grant activities
* Introduce participants to work required for receiving graduate credits from George Mason University and support them in accomplishing this work, including extensive reading, response papers, participation in workshops, and primary source activities
* Assume overall responsibility for the workshops, book groups, classroom observations, and support for participating teachers, including feedback on reflections, primary source I fusions, and lessons
* Assume overall administrative responsibility for overseeing the grant budget and writing annual Department of Education performance reports
* Help administer evaluation activities, including conducting classroom observations and providing written feedback
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:
The Project Coordinator reports to the Supervisor of Social Science & Global Studies.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Project Coordinator will be instrumental in implementing, overseeing, and guiding the progress of the program. The Project Coordinator will have overall administrative responsibility for the project as well as responsibility for professional development work, visiting participant classrooms and providing feedback, and working with teachers on primary source infusions and lesson plans. He or she will serve as liaison to the Evaluation Team. He or she will take a role in bridging historical content knowledge and classroom implementation. Position starts full-time July 1, 2012 and ends June 30, 2013 with an opportunity for part-time, co-curricular, work through December of 2013. This is a grant- funded position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Three (3) to five (5) years of satisfactory classroom experience teaching American History
* Experience teaching historical thinking skills and integrating primary sources into classroom activities
* Postgraduate professional teaching license with American History endorsement
* Degree in history, Master’s preferred
* Administrative/leadership experience (i.e., curriculum development, teacher training, observation, mentoring, or serving as department chair).
* Demonstrated understanding of theories of learning as they apply to the improvement of teaching and developing a quality staff development program
* Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with instructional and support staff, principals, and community, individually, in groups, and in committees
