E.L. Haynes Public Charter School is seeking exceptional before and after-school leaders to join our dynamic year-round Extended Day Program as upper elementary and middle school (3rd-8th grade) instructional staff. Positions are ideal for creative individuals seeking a future career in education, passionate former/retired educators wishing to continue their commitment to teaching or for those who have a deep interest in supporting student academic growth and a passion for shaping the social development of children and youth. BACKGROUND Located in Northwest Washington, D.C. and named after Dr. Euphemia Lofton Haynes, a D.C. teacher as well as the first African-American woman to receive a doctorate in mathematics, E.L. Haynes serves a diverse body of students throughout the District of Columbia. Through the schools Year Round Programs Department, the Extended Day Program provides daily homework support, enriching experiential and project-based learning opportunities, as well as extra curricular activities for students during before and after school program hours. TIME COMMITMENT Before School Positions are part-time, totaling at least 10 hours per week. Employees of the Before School Program work Monday through Friday, 7:00am-9:00am. . Opportunities exist to work additional hours in either the before-school or after-school program as well as substituting during the regular school day. QUALIFICATIONS Preferred applicants will have had prior experience working in a youth development or mentoring program, are able to successfully plan and effectively implement learning activities working as part of a team and have an interest in pursuing education and/or child development and a career or field of study. Ideal applicants will also be available (at minimum) five days a week (Monday Friday) for the before-school program. RESPONSIBILITIES: EDP instructors are expected to manage classes of approximately 12 15 students in size, maintaining behavioral and academic expectations set forth by the E.L. Haynes Year Round Programs Department. Instructional responsibilities include providing homework and other academic support to students in math and literacy through a variety of whole group and small group settings. In addition, instructors will be responsible for planning, preparing and leading additional lessons and activities that are engaging enriching, and challenging to students from a variety of academic levels and social developmental stages. Instructors will also be expected to encourage, embody and demonstrate the values of E.L. Haynes as an active member of the school community. EXPECTATIONS: Staff members will be expected to display professionalism in all aspects of this position, including arriving to school on time and being prepared to work, maintaining a business casual dress, producing formal plans for lessons and activities and attending all staff meetings and professional development workshops. Additional Qualifications: Preferred applicants will have had prior experience working in a youth development or mentoring program, are able to successfully plan and effectively implement learning activities working as part of a team and have an interest in pursuing education and/or child development and a career or field of study. Ideal applicants will also be available (at minimum) five days a week (Monday Friday) for the before- school program.
