Westwood College in Dallas is looking for Adjunct Faculty for Linux System Administration. We offer Bachelor’s Degrees in Information Technology - Computer Management; Information Technology-Computer Forensics; Information Technology-Systems Security and an Associate’s Degree in Information Technology. You must have a Master’s Degree in IT or higher and 3+ years of experience. Certifications are a must in Information Technology, i.e. Cisco, Microsoft, Linux, etc. If you would like a daytime or evening teaching position, Westwood is interested in learning more about you.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Teach courses in Linux system administration including the following areas: • Installation of RHEL, Fedora Core 6, UNIX or SUSE Linux • Networking and operating Linux with other systems • Performing Linux system administration • Linux networking and security administration • Hardware redundancy and fault tolerance • Configuration of the Linux shell and utilities • Troubleshooting Linux • Managing system resources, system logging, backing up system data, controlling processes • Creating scripts and automated procedures • Shell programming • Creating and editing of files
PREFERRED: Linux System Administration Certification
REQUIREMENTS: • Master’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Networking or a minimum of 18 advanced hours with a concentration in network engineering with a master’s degree • Teaching or training experience in Linux or Unix • 3+ years related industry experience for the above skills in job description • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Teach all assigned classes and hours as determined with class assignments. • Plan for instructional activities to include, but not limited to, lecture, class discussion, demonstration labs, and projects. Course outlines and syllabi should be given to students at the beginning of each course setting objectives determining multiple teaching strategies and student activities and evaluation of student learning. • Organize concepts to be taught in a logical and understandable sequence covering all objectives as outlined in the course syllabus and lesson guides. • Handle classroom routines which includes but not limited to the following: o Start and end class on time o Provide a classroom environment conducive to learning o Administer rules consistently and fairly o Establishing and maintaining classroom control o Return tests, labs and homework in a timely manner • Use appropriate assessment tools shall be used that includes but are not limited to the following: o Select, develop and use informal and formal techniques or instruments to measure student learning, modifying teaching strategies if needed. o Submit and maintain accurate records of attendance, grades and Student Action Reports. o Submit all paperwork in a timely manner. • Identify and assess students who are in need of additional instruction to successfully complete the course objectives and provide additional instruction to those students outside of class hours, as needed. • Maintain expertise and technical competence in applicable field of study. If credentialed or certified, maintain all certifications and satisfy all requirements of the professional development plan. • Attend all meetings, ceremonies and official functions as specified by the program director or the Campus Academic Dean. • Adhere to published company guidelines in all matters concerning dress code. • Performs any other duties, as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS At the time of hiring Westwood College faculty and education department managers are required to hold a completed graduate degree from a U.S. regionally or nationally accredited university. In addition, state licensing and national accrediting criteria apply. Faculty with international credentials are required to present an official U.S. degree evaluation by AACRAO or NACES recognized evaluation agency.
