Please Note: River Springs Charter School has the sole discretion to close this job posting at any er Springs Charter School Academy Teacher - Da Vinci K-5 Academy Teacher - Da Vinci K-5 Da Vinci Elementary is a new small, innovative K-5 school in the Temecula area and part of the River Springs Charter School's family of academies. In 2010, (our fourth year), River Springs Charter School's enrollment grew by over 800 students. The Da Vinci approach to learning is grounded in a commitment to educate one student at a time. Our structures and practices are dramatic departures from what is commonly known as traditional¨ education. Classroom teacher for The Da Vinci Elementary School Program. Candidate must be able to teach multiple middle school subjects and multiple grade levels, K thru 5th. Summary: Teaches and documents learning by students in academy environment. Our Da Vinci Academy focuses on learning in a creative project based environment. This is a unique program where students will attend school Monday-Friday 9-4pm. Elective classes are held all day Wednesday. The teacher is responsible for providing a strong academic experience in the classroom, where student initiated learning, independent projects, and differentiated instruction is the primary focus. The students will have a balance of teacher initiated and student initiated activities, which will be written and recorded daily. There will be field trip experiences and service learning opportunities available to each child. During elective days, teachers will be responsible for teaching electives or planning. The teacher will be responsible for creating weekly work plans, and keeping record of student work, attendance, and progress. The teacher will also record learning that has occurred, and document this learning through each student's personalized learning plan. There will be 25-30 students per class. We are looking for someone who is creative, dynamic, and flexible. The classroom experience will be based upon the philosophy of teacher as a mentor. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned. - Prepare a written semester syllabus for each class taught following the accepted format by the due date. (Follow instructions and samples in handbook.) - Plan, prepare for, and deliver coherent, dynamic, and meaningful lessons that are appropriate to the course and level of the students in the class. - Communicate expectations clearly and thoroughly to students and parents. - Maintain classroom in good order. - Maintain a packet for substitutes. (See instructions in handbook) - Ensure student physical, emotional, social, mental, and spiritual safety while at the center and in class. - Prepare written monthly learning records for each student. (Follow instructions and samples in handbook.) - Evaluate and record student work and progress. Maintain a grade book or specific record of student accomplishment throughout the semester. Be prepared to show documentation and offer feedback to the site director, students and parents as needed. - Return assigned and evaluated work promptly to students. - Communicate regularly with parents of students who are struggling in class or are in danger of falling below a C. (See handbook for specifics.) - Be available through email and/or telephone to answer questions from staff, parents, or students about your class by checking your email daily during the weeks the learning center is operating. Please check it at least weekly during down weeks. - Interface with the site director regarding sensitive or controversial topics to be covered as part of the class, outlining both the justification for using it and plans to sensitively manage the lesson with students and parents. This should be done at least 30 days in advance of the plan to do the lesson. - Attend staff meetings and professional learning community meetings. - Work collaboratively to achieve the overall purposes of the school program. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Employment Requirements: Hold a valid CA multiple subject teaching credential. Experience/expertise in the grade level and/or subject area taught. Excellent communication skills with students, parents, and other staff. Excellent writing skills to document learning. Commitment to teach the entire school year with excellent attendance and punctuality. All teachers are expected to be available for questions 15 minutes before and after class times. Ability and desire to serve as a positive role model for youth. Salary RSCS salary is based on the River Springs Charter School salary scale.
