This position is 5 hours per day as a 1:1 aide for a special education Rafael City Schools Instructional Assistant 1:1 APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Call or download application. (). Submit a cover letter and resume to Human Resources Current employees submit a letter of interest and updated resume DEFINITION: Provides assistance and support for students with exceptional needs as specified in the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP). Under general supervision, assists certificated staff in the instruction, supervision, and training of individuals and groups of students. Performs a variety of instructional support and student care activities. Provides specialized services in various special and regular education settings. Performs related work as required. EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assists in the instructional program. Assists in individualized programs of study. May assist and support students independently after appropriate training. Maintains and prepares records and performs clerical duties. Assists with administering, scoring and recording results of specialized assessments and tests. Confers with teachers regarding student progress, program evaluation, problem areas, etc. Assists in the monitoring and modification of student behavior programs. Under general supervision, assists with the physical and health care needs of medically fragile and/or physically handicapped students, including but not limited to suctioning, tube feeding and other personalized services. Lifts and transfers physically handicapped students. Assists with physical needs such as feeding, toileting and dressing. Accompanies students off campus to community based programs. Assists with transportation needs such as accompanying students on public transportation or on district provided transportation. Other duties as assigned by General Education Teacher, Special Education Case Manager, Site Administrator and/or Director of Special Education. Employment Standards, Education and Experience: Instructional Assistant (B) requires completion of Junior College or above of nine (9) hours in Special Education, Human Development or achievement of the Human Development/Special Education Assistant Certificate, or equivalent. Knowledge and Abilities: Ability to support the fully included student in the regular education classroom using strategies, behavior plans, schedules and curricular adaptations provided by the Case Manager and/or General Education Teacher as set forth in each student's Individual Education Plan (IEP). Ability to be innovative, collaborative and creative. Ability to provide small group instruction. Ability to compile student samples for portfolio assessment of (IEP) goals and objectives. Ability to effectively correspond with parents and General Education Teacher in a log provided for the purpose of relating daily events.
