Under the direction of the Director of Extension's International Programs (comprising the English Language Institute, International Student Services, the Teacher English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Certificate programs, and various university credit programs), this position develops, manages and administers new and established courses for ELI's evening and weekend ESL and TEFL course offerings. It provides instructor support both for these programs and for the various daytime ESL programs and university-credit programs offered by Extension IP every quarter, in addition to significant work in advising students in all Extension IP programs. This position is also responsible for financial administration and marketing for ELI's evening/weekend programs, and for financial transactions in other instructor-support areas as needed.
This position requires strong skills in advising international students with limited English proficiency and strong organizational skills to complete work in a very busy international education setting. Most of the work is with the students, teachers, students, and overseas representatives of UCSD Extension International Programs and with International Student Services, who serve UCSD Extension's various international programs.
~~ Scheduling flexibility needed during peak periods. Vacations discouraged during peak periods, which includes the entire summer quarter and various peak enrollment/advising times throughout the year.
~~ Must have reliable transportation to get to off-site meetings (mileage fully reimbursed by employer).QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum 6 months of full-time work experience successfully advising international students enrolled in intensive full-time English language programs, and in teacher training programs, and in university-credit programs in the U.S. or other countries where English is the primary language of communication and instruction.
*
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with non-native speakers of English and with people of many different professional and cultural backgrounds, on the phone, in writing, and in person, including public speaking in front of groups who do not understand English well.
*
Proven ability to accurately manage budgets to produce required margins in a self-support or profit-driven environment, including experience in calculating fees and additional charges according to department guidelines, maintaining appropriate financial records, and accounting for funds.
*
Demonstrated skill in planning, designing, publicizing, implementing, and evaluating post-secondary courses, programs, and events for international students, instructors, and staff in full-time English language programs and in teacher-training programs.
*
Demonstrated advanced writing and analytical skills to clearly and effectively draft, proof, and edit detailed messages, reports, contracts, and agreements for both international and domestic audiences.
*
Ability to work productively and cooperatively while accurately completing large amounts of detailed work by deadline within a high-volume customer-service operation with heavy international student traffic, managing several projects simultaneously with frequent interruptions and frequently changing priorities by using methods to deal effectively with increases in work volume and provide optimal advance planning.

Experience advising international students regarding college application procedures and admission to post-secondary degree programs.

Knowledge of UCSD policies, procedures, forms, and agreements.
