Departmental Overview The Center for the Health Assessment of Mothers and Children of Salinas (CHAMACOS) is partnership between the School of Public Health at the University of California at Berkeley, Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas, and Natividad Medical Center. CHAMACOS has been investigating the effects of environmental exposures on children's health, growth, and development in the Salinas Valley for 10 years. This position is essential to the functioning of the project. As a Participant Relations Professional, the individual is responsible for maintaining contact with 600 migrant farmworker families over a 2 year period. This will require working flexible evening and weekend hours when participants are most typically available, seeking alternate means of communication when participants' main phone lines are disconnected, and maintaining detailed records of each attempted and actual contact with a participant. This will also require the maintenance of a friendly yet professional rapport with families, and the ability to encourage continued participation in the research study in a non-coercive manner. Responsibilities . Maintain regular communication with 600 families who are participants in a longitudinal research study . Schedule all study visits, which will occur at approximately 1-year intervals . Answer participants' questions about the project and address their concerns; foster a sense of enthusiasm for and engagement in the study while respecting participants' right to withdraw from the research at any time . Locate participants who have changed phone numbers and/or moved through phone calls to friends and relatives, letters to children's schools, and visits to last known address . Maintain regular communication with the CHAMACOS Field Coordinator to confirm study interviewers' schedules and availability, . Post all scheduled appointments on the study's Google calendar. Required Qualifications Ability to independently manage and prioritize tasks with the study goals in mind and minimal supervision Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to make participants feel comfortable and involved in the study. Excellent communication skills. Ability to engage people on the telephone and in person. Fully bilingual English-Spanish. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with Latino population and/or immigrants from Spanish-speaking countries. At least 3 years experience acting as a Study Interviewer or an Administrator with direct contact with participants/patients in a public health research or clinical setting, BA in Psychology, Education, Social Sciences, or Public Health.
