Job Summary: Special Education Paraprofessional will work in the Level III program at Oak-Land Junior High. This position is 6.5 hours of Special Educationa and .5 hours general eduction. This position will provide instructional and behavioral support for students with special needs. This position involves working with special education students as an academic assistant within the mainstream classroom or in a one-to-one situation.
Applicants must be: proficient in core subject areas; able to manage behaviors and intervene in crisis situations; good oral, written and interpersonal communication; ability to create positive relationships with students and staff, basic computer skills.
Duties include:
* Assists licensed staff with classroom instruction, individual education plan (IEP) and/or behavior plan (BP) goals by working with small groups of students or an individual student.
* Assists licensed staff in the implementation of classroom management and behavioral interventions, creating an environment that is appropriate for learning. This includes reinforcing positive behavior, utilizing de-escalation techniques and re-directing inappropriate behavior.
* Assists licensed staff with the planning, preparation and implementation of differentiated instructions for individual students and groups.
* Assists licensed staff in the preparation of paperwork for student record keeping. Collects and enters data for progress reports, special education reports and other documents with accuracy.
* Data collection of student behavior (e.g., following directions, on-task, etc.) and performance ensuring documentation on point sheets is accurate.
